drewno.online: project update
drewno.online is my first commercial freelance project and an ongoing, long-term collaboration. I built it from scratch, and it has grown from a simple website into a working platform for selling timber and wooden products.
My role and ongoing collaboration
I remain responsible for the complete digital project, not only its initial development. My work includes website planning, architecture and implementation; day-to-day administration, maintenance and technical improvements; digital marketing and content strategy; technical and content SEO; Google indexing and improvements to search visibility and rankings; analytics and usability development.
This work is part of my broader freelance web development experience, where future commercial projects will also be documented.
Product catalogue and customer accounts
The website now includes a catalogue of American timber species and selected finished wooden products. Customers can create an account, verify their e-mail address and log in after the account has been approved by a manager.
Approved customers receive access to protected prices. Prices are stored securely on the backend and are not included in the public website files.
Company verification by NIP
Business customers can enter their Polish tax identification number (NIP) during registration or while preparing an enquiry.
The system retrieves company information from the official register of the Polish Ministry of Finance. This makes it possible to verify details such as the company name, registered address, REGON, KRS and VAT status.
Basket and delivery planning
Customers can add timber and finished products to a basket and save their selection as a draft enquiry. They can also provide a delivery address, information about vehicle access and the available unloading method.
The website includes calculators for timber volume, approximate weight and delivery planning. These tools help customers estimate how much material they need and prepare the necessary transport information.
The basket is not yet a binding order. Product availability, final prices and delivery costs are confirmed individually before the sale.
Inventory management
I have also developed a protected inventory system for authorised employees.
It supports timber measured in cubic metres and finished products counted in units. The system records stock receipts, issues, adjustments and reservations, together with customer and document information.
Knowledge Base
A major part of the project is the searchable Drewno.online Knowledge Base, which now contains more than 100 materials.
It includes practical guides, comparisons, FAQs, calculators and a wood glossary. The articles cover subjects such as:
- choosing the right wood species;
- timber thickness, moisture and quality;
- calculating volume and weight;
- cutting, sanding, gluing and finishing;
- storage, transport and acclimatisation;
- selecting wood for furniture, worktops, stairs and other projects.
Technology and security
The platform is built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with Node.js on the backend. Security features include protected sessions, password hashing, request limits and ALTCHA protection against automated form submissions.
Google Analytics is loaded only after the visitor gives consent. The website has also been improved for search engines, mobile devices and accessibility.
Drewno.online is now public and operational, although development continues. Online payments and final order processing are planned for a later stage.
